Our History...

Robert Goodman began producing fine wines in 1977 with the sole vision of creating an exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon from premium Howell Mountain, Napa Valley grapes from the critically acclaimed viticulturalist, Mike Beatty. He has achieved and surpassed his original vision. The winery now handles just under one hundred barrels annually, which produce approximately 2500 cases per vintage. While Howell Mountain, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has remained the flagship for our micro-winery, the list of varietals has grown to include Beatty Ranch Zinfandel, Pinot Noir, Carneros Chardonnay and even a late harvest Zinfandel, reminiscent of a fine Port wine.

The principle of operation most responsible for the success of the winery is the procurement of unparalleled premium fruit. Recently, Goodman has expanded his grape acquisitions to include Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes from the Sangiacomo Family Vineyard in the Carneros Appellation. He has also purchased Cabernet Sauvignon from the Polaris Vineyard, Howell Mountain, Napa Valley, from which he has created another "stellar" Cab. In addition, Goodman is proud to support highly select local vineyards in Humboldt County, California. The winery works closely with the Henry Rose Vineyard of Orleans (Cabernet Sauvignon) and the Weyhmiller Vineyards of Alderpoint (Pinot Noir), purchasing selected fruit from each.

Beyond the premium fruit and French Oak barrels that Goodman devotes to all of his wines, the winery's talented and experienced winemaking team as well as its prime location contributes to creating the finest California wines. The Robert Goodman Winery is perched on a hillside at 1800 feet above sea level in the scenic redwood forests of Northern California overlooking Humboldt Bay and Pacific Ocean. The cool ocean breezes keep the winery at a year-round average just below 60 degrees. The prized location and climate also create a desirable work environment for the wine-making team.

Robert Goodman brings more than 40 YEARS to his art. Robert crafts each vintage by hand, dedicating his personal attention to the wines, from harvest to finished masterpiece. His devotion and attention to even the most minute detail results in their superior quality wines.

The greatest instrument in Goodman's winery, however, is YOU, his valued customer.  Your loyalty and support have made our wines thrive as "word of mouth" has spread the Robert Goodman name among connoisseurs of fine wines around the world. Thank you for helping us realize our dreams, we could not do it without you. We look forward to serving you for years to come. As always, your questions and comments are welcomed and encouraged.
